Aplos Ease with lemon sparkling water. An honest report.
Aplos makes adaptogens and hemp-derived drinks designed to take the edge off without alcohol. The Ease formula with a good sparkling water is the version that actually works at a party.
Aplos makes a few different products, but the one I keep coming back to is Ease: a hemp-derived drink with ashwagandha, lemon balm, and passionflower, built around a hemp extract standardized for cannabidiol content. It is designed to produce mild relaxation without sedation, which is a specific and useful target.
The flavor on its own is herbal in a way that takes some getting used to. Not unpleasant, but present. The fix is simple: pour it over ice with a good sparkling water at about a one-to-one or two-to-one ratio (sparkling water to Aplos), add a squeeze of fresh lemon, and you have something that reads as a real drink in a glass without requiring any explanation or apology at a gathering.
The effect is real and mild, which is exactly what I want from it. Not sedating, not nothing, somewhere in the zone of "slightly less tightly wound than I was twenty minutes ago." The onset is slower than alcohol and the ceiling is lower, which is a feature, not a bug, if what you want is to take the edge off a social situation without the next morning consequences.
The things I notice: it is better on a mostly empty stomach than after a full meal. The effect is more pronounced if you have not had caffeine in the last several hours. It stacks fine with other adaptogens but does not need to. And the lemon sparkling water combination specifically, rather than plain water, masks the earthy notes in a way that makes it genuinely enjoyable rather than medicinal.
It is expensive relative to what it is, which is a real consideration. The answer I have landed on is that it compares favorably to the cost of two cocktails, does not carry the same physical consequences, and is better for daily use than alcohol in a way that is not about virtue but about how I feel the next day.
The Ease version is the one I recommend over the Stimulate version if your primary use case is evening. The Stimulate has different adaptogens and reads more as an alternative to a second coffee, which is a different and also useful thing.
